Check out the Switch Witch on The Children’s Bookshelf!
The Switch Witch sits on your shelf at home and watches over the kids in the house to make sure they’re being good children. These “good” kids trick-or-treat as normal, then when they arrive home, choose their favourite pieces of candy to keep while giving the rest to the Switch Witch. Kids leave the Switch Witch a note with their candy, asking for a toy or book in exchange for their loot.
Telling the story of witches who need candy in order to heat their homes, this clever tale may be just what parents need this Halloween to prevent candy-overload.
I especially like the way this book encourages kids to enjoy the fun of trick-or-treating. After all, isn’t the whole point to collect as much candy as possible? With the switch witch, parents need not worry that their children’s totes are overflowing with gooey, chewy, teeth-rotting candy. Provide them with a small tote when they get home to place their favourite candies into then they get to exchange the rest for a toy they really desire. What a great concept!
